The Genius of Trees: An Online Conversation with Harriet Rix

They influence our ecosystem, our climate and, of course, us humans. They control water cycles, break down rocks and poison specific animals. Trees – they are undoubtedly the most powerful plants on Earth. British biochemist Harriet Rix has been studying trees and forests for many years. In her latest book, ‘Geniale Bäume – Wie sie seit Jahrtausenden das Leben auf der Erde bestimmen’ (dtv-Verlag), she takes readers on a journey through the world of trees – from Brazil to Syria, the Himalayas and the Canary Islands.

On 16 October, we welcome Harriet Rix to the first online seminar of ‘Media for future’.

Starting at 5 p.m. (CET), we will talk to the tree expert not only about trunks and leaves, but also about how popular science writing can influence both public awareness and scientific discourse. How do you write about climate and nature topics – with strict precision, with wonder, or with both?
