On 24th of May, Egypt witnessed the 100th event of Cairo Climate Talks, organized by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Egypt and under the auspices of the Egyptian Ministry of Environment.
The event featured the presence of over 20 Egyptian & German organizations that tackle climate action through their efforts and initiatives such as; Goethe-Institut Kairo, German Corporation for International Cooperation-GIZ, Climate School, Greenish, Banlastic Egypt, among others.
The event aimed at collecting stakeholders taking action towards climate change in one place and creating a platform for dialogues on the possible actions that can be taken to impact holistic sustainable development.
Heliopolis University Participation
During the event, Heliopolis University presented its various activities towards climate action through its community development centers as follows:
Entrepreneurship Center for Social Impact – ECSI: presented its Incubation cycle opportunities that empower green startups and initiatives
Education for Sustainable Development Center – ESDC: presented its various learning models which help students understand climate change; through transformative learning models such as, Community-Based Learning and Core Program
Rural Development Center – RDC: showcasing Waste Food Program which encourages the community of the 13 Villages in Sharkia Governorate to separate their waste into organic and non-organic, in order to produce organic compost that helps elevate the soil health of their agricultural lands.
Through its Community Development Centers, Heliopolis University consistently works towards holistic sustainable development of its surrounding communities and in Egypt.
Key Event Highlights
Open space bazaar: featured various organizations & initiatives which aimed to raise awareness on their products and services towards climate action.
Panel sessions: highlighted key topics such as urban and rural sustainable development, sustainable agriculture, and raising awareness on various innovative youth-led initiatives.
Interactive workshops: brainstorming on personal actions to impact climate change as well as educational & organizational initiatives on climate action.
About Cairo Climate Talks
Building on the strong partnership between Egypt and Germany in the fields of energy and environment, the Cairo Climate Talks (CCT) were initiated in 2011. Public events and expert workshops provide a platform to exchange experiences, raise awareness and foster cooperation between policymakers, business, the scientific community, and civil society.
CCT is a cooperation between the German Embassy in Cairo, the Egyptian Ministry of Environment, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ).
