This introductory module explores the fundamentals of climate science, from the greenhouse effect and attribution science to climate mitigation and adaptation. You will also discover how climate action is shaped through international and national governance, policies and targets.

The module provides the essential background knowledge needed to understand, contextualise and communicate climate-related issues accurately and responsibly.

Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to: 

• explain the fundamental concepts of climate science, including the causes and main impacts of climate change
• understand the principles of attribution science, distinguishing the role of climate change in extreme events
• describe the main mechanisms of climate governance, both at national and international level, and recognise the different actors involved
• analyse the importance of climate policies and their relationship with sustainability and climate action
• recognise opportunities for individual and collective action, applying the knowledge acquired in professional and everyday contexts
